BigHorn™ ADA Threshold Ramps

The Green Solution To Accessibility

BigHorn™ Ramps utilize advanced recycled composite technology to provide safe, lightweight residential threshold transitions with exceptional load capacity.

SafePath Products® are engineered for superior slip resistance; our innovative StoneCap™ Coating incorporates ceramic-coated quartz crystals, creating a durable, UV-stable surface. While our ramps are available in a standard 1 1/4″ height, we also offer shim kits for easy 1/4″ on-site adjustments, ensuring a perfect fit for your needs.

BigHorn™ Ramps modify existing thresholds from 1 1/4″ up to 1 1/2″ and offer slip-resistant protection and visual appeal.

Why BigHorn™ Is Different from aluminum Ramps.

BigHorn™ Ramps are designed to perform where aluminum ramps can fall short, especially in wet, cold, and outdoor environments.
BigHorn™ Ramps will not freeze or become slippery in wet or cold conditions. Their unique recycled plastic composite technology conforms to the substrate, accommodating modest crowns and slopes at the threshold.

This makes BigHorn™ the only 100% recycled ramp that is extremely durable while also self-molding to the front and base of the threshold. Aluminum Ramps cannot conform in the same way. They sit rigid on an uneven substrate, conduct cold, and can become slick when wet.

For outdoor threshold ramps at exposed entrances, that difference shows up in the first winter. Molded, mitered ends provide a high-quality finished product that is desirable enough for even the most discerning homeowners and specifiers.

Slip Resistance and StoneCap™ Coating

StoneCap™ Coating is what makes BigHorn™ slip-resistant threshold ramps perform in wet and cold conditions.

The coating incorporates ceramic-coated quartz crystals bonded to the composite substrate. The result is an enduring surface that is UV-stable and guaranteed not to crack or fade. Molded traction pads add a second layer of grip and give the ramp an attractive geometric pattern rather than an industrial look.

Installation Method

BigHorn™ ADA threshold ramps install with the peel-and-stick adhesive tape included in every box, with no fasteners and no substrate preparation.

  • Position the ramp against the existing threshold
  • Cut vertically for height or notch for door molding using a standard rotary saw
  • Apply the supplied peel-and-stick adhesive tape
  • Add a shim kit where the rise is closer to 1 1/2 inches

Because the composite cuts cleanly with common jobsite tools, crews adjust on site rather than reordering. No curing time and no downtime at the opening.

Load Capacity

BigHorn™ Ramps are engineered for heavy load capabilities despite their lightweight construction.
The advanced recycled composite carries substantially more than the ramp's own weight suggests, which is why the product suits both residential entrances and steady commercial foot traffic.

Dimensions and Configurations

BigHorn™ Ramps ship in a standard 1 ¼-inch height and accommodate rises up to 1 1/2 inches with a shim kit.

  • Standard height. 1 1/4 inches
  • With shim kit. Up to 1 1/2 inches, adjustable on site in 1/4-inch increments
  • Front edge. Gradual tapered front edge with molded 22-degree side slope
  • Construction. Advanced hollow core design keeps the ramp lightweight without sacrificing strength

Color Options

BigHorn™ threshold ramps are available in many attractive colors, including Antique Bronze, Black, Brick Burgundy, California Sand, Dusted Cappuccino, Granite Grey, Nutmeg Brown, Silver Sand and Terra Cotta.
The granite and earth tone finishes blend with surrounding stone, stucco, and concrete, which matters on projects where the entrance has to look finished rather than retrofitted.

Project Suitability and Commercial Applications

BigHorn™ ADA threshold ramps work anywhere a door threshold creates a trip or rolling hazard.

  • Commercial entrances. Interior and exterior doors where a small rise blocks access
  • Multi-family housing. Unit doors, patios, and shared corridors across a portfolio
  • Healthcare and senior living. High-traffic doorways requiring dependable traction
  • Offices and retail. Finished appearance at customer-facing entrances
  • Residential. Front doors, patio doors, and garage entries

These door threshold ramps suit both interior and exterior use, which is why outdoor threshold ramps at exposed entrances remain a core application.

Wholesale, Bulk, and Commercial Project Orders

SafePath Products® supplies BigHorn™ ADA threshold ramps in bulk for property portfolios, multi-site rollouts, and commercial specification packages.

  • Support for Architects and Specifiers

We provide a dedicated design team that helps lay out projects for error-free installation. Send us the threshold conditions across the project, and we will confirm height, shim requirements, and color selection before anything is specified.

  • Support for Contractors

Every ramp arrives with peel-and-stick adhesive tape and installation instructions. The composite cuts and notches with standard rotary saws on-site, so a crew can fit an odd door jamb without a return trip or a reorder.

  • Support for Facility Managers

Installation causes minimal disruption: there is no cure time and no fastening into the slab, just clean, dry-fit, and press into place with the included peel-and-stick tape. The StoneCap™ coating is UV-stable and designed for maintenance-free use, so ramps hold their appearance across the portfolio.

Bulk and Wholesale Ordering

  • Volume pricing for multi-unit and multi-site projects
  • Mixed color orders on one purchase order
  • Shim kits supplied alongside bulk ramp orders
  • Design team review before the order is placed

Frequently Asked Questions

Measure straight up from the floor or landing to the highest point of the threshold, where the wheel would first make contact. If the rise is 1 ¼”, a standard BigHorn™ ramp fits as-is. If it’s closer to 1 ½”, add a Shim Johnny kit. Also measure the door opening width and check for door jambs or trim the ramp may need to be notched around.

Each BigHorn™ ramp measures 1 ¼” high, 12 ¼” deep, and 42″ wide, and weighs about 12 lbs. The 42″ width covers standard 32″ to 36″ residential and commercial door openings with room on each side for the flared ends. For narrower openings, the ramp can be cut on site.

Under the 2010 ADA Standards, a door threshold should generally be no higher than ½”, or ¾” for certain existing thresholds, with beveled edges. Rises above that are treated as a change in level and need a ramped transition. A threshold ramp like BigHorn™ is used to bring an existing raised threshold into an accessible condition without replacing the door or sill.

Yes. BigHorn™ ramps can be notched and cut vertically to fit around the frame and track of a sliding patio door. Place the ramp against the outside face of the track so the door can still slide freely. Measure the track height first, since sliding door sills are often taller than standard hinged door thresholds.

Both are common, but they suit different jobs. Rubber ramps are soft and flexible, but they can compress, curl at the edges, or shift over time, especially outdoors. BigHorn™ recycled composite is rigid enough to carry wheelchair and scooter loads, yet it still conforms to minor surface irregularities. Its StoneCap™ surface also gives it a finished look that plain rubber lacks.

Yes, unlike metal or aluminum, BigHorn™ Ramps will not freeze or become slippery in wet or cold environments.
The StoneCap™ Coating uses ceramic-coated quartz crystals for a slip-resistant surface that is UV-stable and guaranteed not to crack or fade. Molded traction pads add further grip.
